The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to expand the number of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), Senior Research Fellowships (SRF), and Post Doctoral Fellowships available. Yes, the UGC has released updated fellowship amounts for JRF, SRF, and other fellowships. The updated prices were examined and agreed upon during the 572nd meeting on September 20 and will be effective January 1, 2023, according to the UGC.

JRF in Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Previous amount (monthly): Rs 31,000 for two years

New amount (monthly): Rs 37,000 per month for 2 years

SRF in Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences: 

Previous amount (monthly): Rs 35,000 for the remaining term

New amount (monthly): Rs 42,000 per month for the remaining period

Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child

Previous amount (monthly): Rs 31,000 for 2 years

New amount (monthly): Rs 37,000 per month for 2 years

Dr DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship

Higher post-doctoral fellowship

Previous amount (monthly): Rs 54,000 for the entire tenure

New amount (monthly): Rs 67,000 for the entire tenure

Post-doctoral fellowship

Previously, the monthly payment was 47,000 for the first year, 49,000 for the second year, and 54,000 for the third year.

New monthly amount: 58,000 for the first year, 61,000 for the second year, and 67,000 for the third year.

Fellowship for Doctoral Study for Women, Women in SC/ST, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Fellowship

Previous amounts (monthly): 47,000 for the first year, 49,000 for the second year, and 54,000 for the third year and beyond.

New amount (monthly): 58,000 for the first year, 61,000 for the second year, and 67,000 for the third year and beyond.

Undergraduate students will be required to conduct internships and will receive credit for them, according to new draft rules from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

In compliance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises the inclusion of research and internships in the undergraduate (UG) curriculum to provide opportunities for active engagement in on-site experiential learning for students, the draught of the "Guidelines for internship and research internship for undergraduate students" was made public on Tuesday.

"A minimum of two to four credits, out of the necessary minimum of 120/160 credits, of a three-year UG degree/four-year UG degree (Honours)/four-year UG degree (Honours with Research) can be given for an internship as per the National Higher Education Qualifications Framework (NHEQF) and Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programme (CCFUP)," according to the initial draft of the guidelines.

Students enrolling in UG degree programmes will be required to complete a 60-120-hour internship following the fourth semester.

"Three-year UG degree, four-year UG degree (Honours) and four-year degree (Honours with Research) programme will be functioning strictly according to NEP-2020, NHEQF and CCFUP provisions," the first draft of the rules stated.
