Mandaviya emphasized that the NIMSR is not just a medical college but also a research institute.

"It will not only fulfill the purpose of providing medical education but will also tackle the health concerns of the Naga people," he stated to reporters.

Mandaviya stated, "In just nine years, the (number of) MBBS seats in India has grown from 64,000 to 1.6 lakh," highlighting the Center's dedication to enhancing medical education in the nation. In the same way, over the past nine years, PG seats have doubled.

Also, he said medical students ought to broaden their research outside national boundaries. "We need to take advantage of opportunities overseas as well," he stated, noting that the Centre has initiated language programs in several medical educational establishments to provide students a competitive advantage when applying for positions overseas.

He claimed that the BJP-led Centre for the Comprehensive Development and Growth of the Nation's Health Sector is working to improve the quality of medical, nursing, and pharmacy education in the nation.

"The aim is to make sure every citizen of India has access to reliable and inexpensive medical care across the country," said the minister.

In addition, he emphasized the nationwide establishment of "Jan aushadhi kendras" to provide everyone with better access to reasonably priced, high-quality medications.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) granted NIMSR, Kohima, which is associated with Nagaland University, permission to admit 100 MBBS students for the 2023–2024 academic year in April, according to a statement released by the health ministry.

It stated that following their orientation program on September 1, 85 MBBS students from Nagaland and six from the all-India seats were admitted to the NIMSR and enrolled in the MBBS courses.

According to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the fulfillment of a long-cherished aspiration for the people of Nagaland made today historic. Declaring that the establishment of a medical college in Nagaland was a long-standing desire of the state's residents, the chief minister expressed gratitude to the Union government for its unwavering commitment to the initiative.

Rio expressed hope that the NIMSR will eventually turn into a center of excellence and noted that it will help the state strengthen its secondary and tertiary healthcare system.
