Delhi University Approves One-Year PG Programme Starting 2026
Delhi University’s Academic Council has approved the introduction of a one-year postgraduate (PG) programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, starting in 2026. The programme will be available to graduates of DU’s four-year undergraduate courses, while students with a three-year undergraduate degree can continue with the two-year PG option. The resolution will now be presented to the university’s Executive Council for final approval.

Details of the One-Year PG Programme
The one-year postgraduate curriculum is part of the newly approved Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024 (PGCF 2024). Under this plan:
- Graduates of DU’s four-year undergraduate programme will qualify for the one-year PG option.
- Students with a three-year undergraduate degree will continue with the existing two-year PG programme.
The Academic Council (AC) has also endorsed reserving one supernumerary seat in each PG course for single female students, further promoting gender inclusivity.
Other Developments
- New PhD Programme: A PhD in Hindu Studies will be introduced starting the 2025-26 academic session.
- Specialised Courses: Increased seats in DM (Neuroanaesthesia) at GIPMER and BSc (Medical Technology) Radiology at Lady Hardinge Medical College are planned, pending regulatory approvals.
- Healthcare Upgrades: Plans to construct a four-storey DU Health Centre and affiliate with a railway hospital to enhance healthcare for employees were discussed.
