Description
Until 2005, the administration of vocational education in West Bengal was under the jurisdiction of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. However, in 2005, the Vocational Stream became an autonomous entity, operating independently and successfully within the state.
A significant development occurred on December 5, 2013, when the Government of West Bengal introduced a bill in the Assembly. This bill was successfully passed on July 15, 2015, leading to the establishment of a new council known as the "West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development." This new council was formed through the amalgamation of the 'West Bengal State Council of Technical Education' and the 'West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training.'
At present, the Vocational Stream is regarded as equivalent to the General Stream of H.S. (Higher Secondary) Education in West Bengal.
