Description

Sanskrit, an ancient and classical language of India, served as the medium for the compilation of the world's first book, the Rigveda. The dating of the Vedas, undertaken by various scholars, ranges from 6500 B.C. to 1500 B.C. It is reasonable to assume that Sanskrit had developed its expressive capabilities prior to this period. The language used in the Vedas is believed to have existed in various dialect forms and differed somewhat from the contemporary Sanskrit. This ancient form is referred to as Vedic Sanskrit.

Each Veda had its own grammar book called the Pratishakhya, which elucidated the word forms and other grammatical aspects. Subsequently, numerous grammar schools emerged. During this era, a rich body of literature emerged, including the Vedas, Brahmana-Granthas, Aranyakas, Upanishads, and Vedangas, collectively known as Vedic Literature, all composed in Vedic Sanskrit.
