Description

Dedicated to excellence in medical education, healthcare, and research, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University), formerly known as SRMC & RI (DU), stands as a premier health sciences university in India. Originating as Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in 1985, it was established by the Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust as a private, not-for-profit, self-financing institution. The institution's core mission is to serve society as a center of excellence with a focus on medical education, research, and healthcare.

Under the visionary leadership of Late Shri. N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar, the Founder & Managing Trustee of the Trust and the first Chancellor of the Deemed University, the institution attained the status of a "Centre of Excellence." Presently, Shri V.R. Venkataachalam serves as the Chancellor of the Deemed University and is also the Managing Trustee of the Trust, while Shri R.V. Sengutuvan holds the position of Pro Chancellor.

In recognition of its academic excellence, the Government of India declared Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute a Deemed University in September 1994 under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The institution's nomenclature was changed to Sri Ramachandra University in 2006, reverting to SRMC&RI (DU) in December 2017. In accordance with the Ministry of Human Resource Development's notification dated August 8, 2018, the name of the Deemed University has been modified to "Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University)."

Evolving into a full-fledged Deemed University over three decades, SRMC&RI (DU) comprises twelve faculties/constituent colleges. These include Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Technology and Research, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Sports & Exercise Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Research, and Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The Deemed University offers 150 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in healthcare sciences. With a faculty strength of approximately 950, over 6,500 students receive teaching and training, maintaining a favorable Faculty: Student ratio of 1:7 from the academic year 2019-20.
