Shanmugha Arts Science Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA)

Commencing its journey in 1984 with a modest inception, SASTRA's remarkable progress over the last 36 years underscores its unwavering commitment to realizing its vision of building a comprehensive university. Today, SASTRA stands as one of India's premier institutions, offering a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Engineering, Management, Law, Sciences, Humanities, and Education. The University attained Deemed-to-be-University status in 2001, as conferred by the University Grants Commission under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. Additionally, SASTRA has an MHRD-notified off-campus known as the Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre (SRC) in Kumbakonam.

Functioning as a comprehensive university, SASTRA's teaching programs are complemented by research engagements, consultancy assignments, training initiatives, and extension activities. Having been re-accredited by NAAC (fourth cycle) with the highest grade of 'A++' (3.76/4.00), it holds Category I status according to the UGC's categorization of Universities for Graded Autonomy Regulations, 2018. Notably, twelve engineering programs at SASTRA have received international accreditation for a period of nine years from the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), UK, recognizing the institution's academic excellence. In the NIRF ranking, SASTRA consistently secures a position among the top 40 universities, holding the 22nd spot in 2022. Furthermore, it has earned recognition as a Scientific & Industrial Research Organization by the Government of India.
