Description
In response to the Government of India's decision in 1985 to pay a humble yet valuable tribute to the revered saint, the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology came into existence. Established by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) in 1989, the institute was officially inaugurated on December 20, 1991.
Aligned with the objectives of the new education policy, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET) emerged with the vision of serving as an international platform for the development and transfer of technical expertise in academia. Committed to providing top-notch technical education and addressing the technical manpower requirements with a focus on practical industry training, SLIET became an autonomous body fully funded by the Government of India and governed by the SLIET Society, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The institute issues its own certificates, diplomas, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees, all approved and recognized by AICTE, New Delhi. Subsequently, Ph.D. programs were initiated upon obtaining the status of Deemed to be University.
The institute's mission extends beyond formal education to encompass the preparation of skilled and qualified individuals for self-employment. Additionally, SLIET engages in strategic research and development activities, complemented by entrepreneurship initiatives, to enhance educational outreach to both the unemployed and working population, updating and upgrading their technical skills. Conceived to support the existing three-tier system in modern industry, catering to workers, technicians, and engineers, the institute plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between education and industry needs.
