Description
The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) was initially established as a registered society in 1986. Subsequently, on September 1992, the RCI Act was passed by the Parliament, elevating it to the status of a Statutory Body as of June 22, 1993. In 2000, the Act underwent parliamentary amendments to broaden its scope.
RCI is entrusted with several key responsibilities:

Regulating and Monitoring: RCI is mandated to oversee and regulate the provision of services to individuals with disabilities. It ensures that these services adhere to prescribed standards.

Standardizing Syllabi: RCI sets and maintains standardized curricula in the field of Rehabilitation and Special Education to ensure consistency and quality in training programs.

Central Rehabilitation Register: RCI maintains a comprehensive Central Rehabilitation Register, which includes information about all qualified professionals and personnel working in the Rehabilitation and Special Education sector.

Enforcement Against Unqualified Practitioners: The Act also includes provisions for punitive actions against individuals lacking the necessary qualifications who attempt to deliver services to persons with disabilities.
