Description
Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) (PEC) traces its origins back to Lahore, where it was established as Mugalpura Engineering College in 1921. In 1953, the institution relocated to its current campus and became affiliated with Panjab University, operating under the name PEC. Recognized as a Deemed University in 2003 through an MHRD notification, the institution underwent a rechristening in 2009, adopting the title PEC University of Technology.
Functioning as a Grant-in-Aid institution under the administration of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Government of India, PEC boasts a sprawling and serene 146-acre campus. Additionally, the campus is home to the Chandigarh College of Architecture. The academic and administrative processes at PEC closely resemble those of renowned IITs across the country. Governance is overseen by a dynamic Board of Governors, led by the esteemed industrialist Sh. Rajinder Gupta. The institute is directed by an individual serving a five-year tenure, a position equivalent to that of a Vice Chancellor in traditional universities.
PEC offers eight undergraduate B.Tech. programs and fourteen postgraduate M.Tech. programs across various engineering and technology disciplines. Since attaining university status, the institution has also introduced a Ph.D. program encompassing engineering, science, management, humanities, and social sciences. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programs is determined through national-level examinations, namely JEE (Mains) and GATE, respectively. PEC comprises nine academic departments and two centers of excellence, contributing to its reputation as a distinguished institution of higher learning.
