Description

Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, encompassing Noorul Islam College of Engineering as its primary teaching unit, has been granted the status of a Deemed-to-be-University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Higher Education), Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. This designation, based on the recommendation of UGC, was conveyed through Notification No.F.9-51/2004-U.3 on December 8, 2008. The university is administered by the Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education (NICHE) Society, with Janab Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan serving as the President of the Society, NICHE, and the Chancellor of the University, NICHE.

Situated at Kumaracoil, Thuckalay in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu, the university campus is nestled in the tranquil and verdant setting of Velimalai, a scenic segment of the Western Ghat Hills near the historically renowned Padmanabhapuram Palace. Located just 1.5 km inland from Kumaracoil Junction on the Kanyakumari Thiruvanthapuram National Highway (NH-47), it is approximately 30 km from Kanyakumari and 60 km from Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala.

Established in the academic year 1989-90, Noorul Islam College of Engineering, the constituent teaching unit, gained approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to commence two engineering courses: B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering and B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering, each with an initial intake of 40 students. Over the years, the college has witnessed consistent growth in academic endeavors, expanding its offerings to include various Engineering and Technology courses. This expansion has been complemented by the development of necessary infrastructure, including buildings, libraries, faculty, computers, state-of-the-art software, peripherals, and equipment.

What started as Noorul Islam College of Engineering in 1989, with an initial intake of 80 students in two undergraduate engineering programs, has evolved into a prominent educational institution in the southern part of India. Now elevated to the status of a university, Noorul Islam University faces the responsibility of broadening its vision and extending its mission. The current challenge involves transforming India's engineering education systems into platforms that nurture world-class quality in human capital development, fostering intellectual and knowledge capital to support the country's economic and industrial progress. The university, marked by commendable performance, ongoing efforts to promote research and innovation, and earnest collaborations with industry and community partners, aims to excel in critical areas and contribute to the nation's economic and industrial growth. The Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education is dedicated to realizing its ambitious goals, propelling higher and technical education in the right direction to accelerate the progress of our nation.
