Description

Established on July 31, 2008, under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 (equivalent to section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013), the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) operates as a not-for-profit public limited company. This entity was instituted by the Ministry of Finance as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. The Government of India, facilitated by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), possesses 49% of NSDC's share capital, with the remaining 51% held by the private sector.

NSDC's core objective is to stimulate skill development by fostering the establishment of large-scale, high-quality, and profitable vocational institutions. In addition to this, the organization provides financial support for the development of scalable and lucrative vocational training initiatives. NSDC's responsibilities also extend to facilitating a support system that emphasizes quality assurance, information systems, and the establishment of academies for training trainers, either directly or through strategic partnerships. Functioning as a catalyst in the realm of skill development, NSDC allocates funds to enterprises, companies, and organizations engaged in providing skill training. Moreover, it formulates tailored models to bolster, facilitate, and coordinate private sector initiatives. NSDC's nuanced approach, covering 37 sectors, coupled with its profound understanding of their viability, renders each sector appealing for private investment.
