The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), previously known as the National Open School, is a prominent national educational board in India, overseen and administered by the Government of India. It was founded in 1989 under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Indian Government.
NIOS witnessed an impressive cumulative enrollment of approximately 1.5 million students between 2004 and 2009, spanning both secondary and senior secondary levels. Furthermore, it consistently enrolls around 350,000 students each year, solidifying its status as the world's largest open schooling system.
