Description

The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), a Deemed to be University, was established under the aegis of the Ministry of Education (formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India. Renowned for its expertise in education planning and management, NIEPA serves as a premier organization not only in India but also in South Asia, focusing on capacity building and research in the field of education.

Acknowledging the institution's groundbreaking contributions in educational planning and administration, the Government of India conferred it the status of Deemed to be University in August 2006, empowering NIEPA to independently award its own degrees. Operated and fully maintained by the Government of India, NIEPA functions similarly to a Central University.

The institute's roots trace back to 1962 when UNESCO established the Asian Regional Centre for Educational Planners and Administrators, later evolving into the Asian Institute of Educational Planning and Administration in 1965. After four years under the management of the Government of India, it was renamed the National Staff College for Educational Planners and Administrators. In 1979, recognizing its expanded roles in capacity building, research, and professional support services to governments, the institution was rechristened as the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).
