Description

Established in 1961 by the Government of India, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) operates as an autonomous organization with the primary purpose of providing assistance and counsel to both Central and State Governments on policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of school education. NCERT and its constituent units have several key objectives: conducting, promoting, and coordinating research in areas related to school education; creating and publishing model textbooks, supplementary materials, newsletters, journals, educational kits, multimedia digital resources, etc.; organizing pre-service and in-service training for teachers; developing and disseminating innovative educational techniques and practices; fostering collaborations and networks with state educational departments, universities, NGOs, and other educational institutions; serving as a clearinghouse for ideas and information pertaining to school education; and acting as a nodal agency to achieve the goals of Universalization of Elementary Education.

Beyond its research, development, training, extension, publication, and dissemination activities, NCERT also functions as an implementation agency for bilateral cultural exchange programs related to school education with other countries. Furthermore, NCERT collaborates and engages with international organizations, hosts visiting foreign delegations, and provides diverse training facilities to educational personnel from developing nations.
