Description
Established in 1957 as Lakshmibai College of Physical Education (LCPE) in memory of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, this institution commenced its journey as a college of physical education affiliated with Vikram University. In 1964, LCPE transitioned to Jiwaji University.
Undergoing a series of transformations, the college was renamed Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) in 1973. By 1982, it achieved autonomy, and in 1995, it adopted the name Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education. In 2000, the Government of India declared it a deemed university, bestowing the name Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education and entrusting its administration to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, which funds its activities.
In 2017, responding to a UGC directive, the institution underwent a name change to Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, omitting the term "University" as advised for deemed universities. This rich history reflects the evolution of a dedicated institution committed to physical education.
