Description

The Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University is dedicated to providing education leading to undergraduate, postgraduate, and research degrees, including M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs in Sanskrit, as well as research degrees exclusively in Ancient Studies. Additionally, the university is authorized, under the provisions of the Act, to introduce academic programs in Humanities, Social Sciences, and other relevant disciplines in response to societal needs.

Established through a government notification dated May 24th, 2011, under the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University Act, 2011, the university's mission, as outlined in the Act's preamble, is to create a comprehensive institution that encompasses teaching, affiliation, research, and residential facilities. The university is located in Nalbari, the administrative headquarters of the Nalbari district in Assam. This institution is named in honor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma, a prominent 7th-century monarch in Assam, known for his support of Sanskrit studies and the flourishing of Vedic culture and Sanskritic knowledge during his rule.

The university campus is situated in the Namati Village of Batahgila Mouza, within the Nalbari Revenue Circle of the Nalbari district in Assam, with a designated area of 100 bighas of land provided by the Government of Assam.
