Description
Established in 1989 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to honor the birth centenary of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is an autonomous institution. Professor C. N. R. Rao, FRS, served as the founding President, with the eminent physicist and former Chairman of DAE, Dr. Raja Ramanna, as its first Chairman when the institution was registered as a society. In 2002, the University Grants Commission, Government of India, recognized the Centre as an Institution Deemed to be University.
Currently presided over by Professor Giridhar U. Kulkarni, the Centre's Governing Council, chaired by Professor V Ramgopal Rao, plays a pivotal role in overseeing its major activities, including the granting of degrees, faculty appointments, and the initiation of new programs. The Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) monitors teaching programs and degree awards. The institution is led by the President, supported by the Administrative Officer, and various Officers overseeing specific departments. Four Deans manage the Academic Section, Extension Programmes, Research and Development, and Faculty Affairs.
