Established in 2005 under section 3 of the UGC Act, the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) plays a pivotal role in fostering profound capabilities in nuclear science and engineering. Functioning as a Constituent Institution (CI) and Off-Campus Centre (OCC), HBNI is dedicated to accelerating the progress of basic research, translating it into technology development, and applying it in various fields. The institute offers academic programs, including Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering, Physical, Chemical, Mathematical, Life, and Medical & Health Sciences, with a focus on encouraging interdisciplinary research.
Moreover, HBNI has identified academic programs in Applied Systems Analysis to ensure the availability of qualified human resources for addressing issues related to nuclear law, the economics of nuclear power, nuclear security, nuclear proliferation, intellectual property rights, and more.
Accredited by NAAC with a score of 3.4 as a category 'A+' University in 2021, HBNI has achieved notable recognition in the MHRD's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the academic year 2022.
