Description
Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be University) was established on March 4, 1902, by Swami Shraddhanand, an Arya Samaj sannyasi and a devoted follower of Dayananda Saraswati. Its primary objective was to rekindle the ancient Indian gurukula system of education. This institution was founded with the mission of offering an indigenous educational alternative to Lord Macaulay's educational policies. It aimed to provide instruction in various fields, including Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture, modern sciences, and research.
The Arya Samaj, which strongly advocated women's education as a part of its efforts to uplift women in the country, established the Kanya Gurukula Campus in Dehradun in 1922 under the guidance of Acharya Ramdevji, creating a second campus dedicated to women's education. However, to fully realize Swami Shraddhanandaji's vision, the Kanya Gurukula Campus in Hardwar was established in 1993.
