Description
Established on March 4, 1902, by Swami Shraddhanandaji, Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be University) stands as a testament to the revival of the ancient Indian Gurukula System of education. Nestled on the banks of the Ganges, approximately 6 km from Haridwar and 200 km from Delhi, this institution was founded with a singular purpose—to offer an indigenous alternative to Lord Macaulay’s education policy. It aimed to provide education in Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture, modern sciences, and research. Gurukula Kangri is a deemed-to-be university that receives full funding from UGC/Government of India.
From its inception, Arya Samaj has championed women’s education, and in line with its commitment to uplifting women in the country, Kanya Gurukula Campus in Dehradun was established in 1922 by Acharya Ramdevji as a second campus dedicated to women’s education. To realize the aspirations of Swami Shraddhanandaji, Kanya Gurukula Campus in Haridwar was founded in 1993.
