Description
Located in Kokrajhar District of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam, the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) aims to address the cultural identity, language, education, and overall economic development aspirations of the Bodo People. Established on December 19, 2006, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, CIT is a Centrally Funded Institute with the fundamental objective of providing technological and vocational training to Bodo youths. This training is designed to equip them with the necessary skills to contribute to the economic growth of the region and integrate the Bodo People into mainstream Technical and Vocational Education.
The institute's origin lies in the memorandum of Settlement on Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), signed on February 10, 2003, in New Delhi, involving the Assam Government, the Union Government, and the Bodo Liberation Tigers. Registered as an autonomous body under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, CIT operates under a Board of Governors (BOG).
CIT's mandate encompasses the imparting of Technical and Vocational Education in areas such as Information Technology, Bio-Technology, Food Processing, Rural Industries, Business Management, etc. This aligns with the joint efforts of the Government of India and the Government of Assam to meet the aspirations of the Bodo people. With its modular and innovative academic programs, CIT aspires to carve a distinctive niche in the realm of technical education in the country.
