Description

Achieving knowledge-driven growth necessitates educational systems that cultivate highly skilled and adaptable human capital, essential for competing in the global arena. Traditional approaches to education are rooted in a social welfare perspective, where education is intrinsically linked to human well-being and societal progress. It not only facilitates individuals' access to gainful employment but also empowers them to lead dignified lives, thereby contributing significantly to the welfare of society.

In this context, Kerala Vocational Higher Secondary Education places a strong emphasis on three fundamental aspects of learning: Professional, Vocational, and Workplace. The origins of Vocational Higher Secondary Education in Kerala can be traced back to the modest beginnings of the program in 1983-84. Initially, it was introduced in 19 schools with a limited selection of courses, and by 1985-86, it had expanded to 73 schools, offering 27 distinct vocational courses.

The program's growth continued over the years, reaching its zenith by 1995-96, with 310 schools offering a total of 814 batches encompassing 45 different courses. In 2000-01, there was another significant expansion, bringing the number of schools to 375, offering a thousand batches. Presently, there are 389 schools in the state that provide Vocational Higher Secondary Education through 35 restructured courses with modernized curricula. Out of these schools, 128 are in the private aided sector, while 261 are in the government sector.
