Description

The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, was established in 1972 through an Act of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. In 2004, this Act was amended to expand the board's responsibilities. In addition to overseeing academic activities, the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, was also entrusted with setting the criteria for granting recognition to institutions offering education from standard I to VIII.

Currently, the board is affiliated with 786 high and higher secondary schools, comprising 226 government schools, 103 government-aided schools, and 457 private schools, for the purpose of certifying students at the end of the secondary stage, which is class X. These schools are either government-managed or operated by private entities. Beyond conducting examinations at the end of class X, the board is also responsible for curriculum and syllabus development, as well as the preparation, printing, and distribution of textbooks for students from class I to X.
