Description

The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE) is the officially recognized open schooling board by the Government of Sikkim, India. It was established under the provisions of the Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education; Sikkim Act 2020, which was enacted by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on September 21, 2020, and is documented as Act No. 14 of 2020.

The government of Sikkim has established BOSSE to facilitate secondary education, senior secondary education, skill development, and vocational education up to the pre-degree level. Its mission is to provide educational opportunities to students who may have missed conventional schooling. BOSSE is a state-level open school board responsible for conducting examinations at the secondary and senior secondary levels, much like other recognized boards such as the NIOS, CBSE, and CISCE.

One distinctive feature of BOSSE is its offering of skill and vocational subjects alongside the traditional secondary and senior secondary subjects. The board is also entrusted with the task of promoting open schooling and engaging in research, innovation, and development initiatives to strengthen the open and distance education system.
