Description

"The Assam Secondary Education Act, 1961 (Assam Act, XXV of 1961) was enacted to establish a governing body known as the Board of Secondary Education with the purpose of overseeing, regulating, and advancing Secondary Education in the State of Assam. This legislation took effect on January 29, 1962, following the issuance of Notification no. 159/61/37 by the Government of Assam, Education Department.

As a result, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, commonly referred to as SEBA, was formally established on March 14, 1962. Its operational activities commenced with the administration of the 11-year H.S.S.L.C. Examination in 1962. In accordance with the provisions of the Act, the Government of Assam appointed Sri S.C. Rajkhowa, the Director of Public Instruction, Assam, as the Chairman, and Md. N. Islam, Inspector of Schools for Central Assam Circle, as the Secretary."
