Description
Saint John Bosco, affectionately known as Don Bosco, was born on August 16, 1815, in Becchi, Piedmont, Italy. From a tender age, he felt a calling to serve the underprivileged boys during the tumultuous era of the Industrial Revolution in Europe. This period saw many young individuals migrating to cities in pursuit of education or employment, only to be ensnared by the prevalent social issues.
Ordained as a Catholic priest in 1841, Don Bosco embarked on a mission to rescue these destitute boys with a pioneering approach to youth education. His methodology was characterized by unwavering commitment and direct involvement in their lives and challenges.
To manifest his wholehearted dedication to their betterment, Don Bosco built his educational philosophy on three foundational principles: Reason, Religion, and Compassion. He embraced those entrusted to his care as a nurturing father, going to great lengths to ensure their well-being. Don Bosco possessed a keen awareness of the societal context within which education operated, understanding that it couldn't exist in isolation. Vocational guidance, skills training, job placement, and post-placement support were integral components of Don Bosco's educational vision, mirroring their significance in modern education practices.
