Description

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 with the overarching objective of conducting a comprehensive survey of the existing technical education facilities and fostering coordinated and integrated development in India. AICTE was entrusted with the following key responsibilities in accordance with the National Policy on Education (1986):

  1. Legal Authority for Planning and Norms: AICTE was granted statutory authority to oversee the planning, formulation, and maintenance of norms and standards for technical education in the country. This ensures that technical institutions adhere to established quality benchmarks.

  2. Quality Assurance through Accreditation: AICTE is charged with the critical role of maintaining and ensuring the quality of technical education through the process of accreditation. Accreditation mechanisms help assess and confirm the quality of educational programs and institutions.

  3. Funding in Priority Areas: AICTE plays a central role in allocating financial resources to priority areas within technical education. It monitors the utilization of funds and evaluates the impact of investments in various educational initiatives.

  4. Parity of Certification and Awards: AICTE is responsible for ensuring that certifications and awards provided by technical institutions across the country are consistent and maintain a high level of credibility and recognition.

  5. Management of Technical Education: AICTE manages and oversees the administration of technical education at a national level, promoting its growth and development in a coherent and efficient manner.
