Description
"In 1875, the university's origins can be traced back to the establishment of the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The institution commenced its operations on May 24, 1875. This event marked the beginning of what would later be recognized as the Aligarh Movement, a significant initiative associated with Syed Ahmad Khan that emphasized the urgency of creating a modern education system for the Indian Muslim population.
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan believed that proficiency in English and Western sciences was essential for preserving the political influence of Muslims. His vision for the college drew inspiration from his visits to Oxford University and Cambridge University, where he aspired to institute an educational system akin to the British model.
